The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a British non-governmental organization registered as a Charity undertaking humanitarian mine action around the world. MAG is working to save lives and build futures in Sri Lanka by reducing the risk presented by remnants of conflict.

MAG is seeking a motivated and experienced Demolition Coordinator who independently plans and coordinates demolition activities under the line management of STM (Standard and Training Manager) and assists with relevant tasks, as required by TOM (Technical Operations Manager).

The purpose of the Demolition Coordinator is to plan, manage, coordinate and ensure that all programme demolitions of all types of landmines, EO (Explosive Ordnance) are disposed of effectively, efficiently and in a safe manner, according to the programme Standard Operating Procedures and International / National Mine Action Standards.

Essential Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience working in mine clearance operations in Sri Lanka at the Supervisor level, or at least 5 years of experience working as a Demolition Officer
  • EOD Level 3 from recognised international or national institution
  • Experience in demolitions - Supervisor and above.
  • Experience in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching others
  • Experience in conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others
  • Experience in working independently for extended periods of time in 'stand-alone' environments with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in English and Sinhala is essential for this role

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Technical knowledge of mines/SALW/EO/ERW including demolition procedures.
  • Ability to develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures.
  • The ability to contribute technical knowledge to assist with operational efficiency compliance/improvements and the improvement of safety.
  • Excellent coordination and management skills with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be computer literate with strong MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, MST) skills
  • Ability to compile databases in Excel and conduct analysis of results
  • Ability to carry out probationary reviews and performance appraisals for line managed staff
  • Knowledge of one or more of these technical skill areas is essential

  • A minimum of Supervisor or Instructor level and above
