School Counsellor

The School Counsellor will provide high-quality counselling services to students and staff, in accordance with best practices in the UK and internationally. This role will involve contributing to safeguarding and promoting mental and emotional health and well-being among the community. The School Counsellor will lead the school's personal, social and health education programme. The programme covers issues related to physical and mental health and well-being, relationship education and living in the wider world.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to a positive and inclusive school culture and be able to work with all members of our school community.
  • Be able to collaborate and share expertise across and within the whole school community.
  • Show a commitment to keeping up to date with current UK
    Safeguarding practices.
  • Have a strong commitment to the pastoral care of the students.
  • Have experience in working with groups of children. Classroom teaching experience/teaching qualification/the ability to facilitate training or workshops would be an advantage.
  • Have an understanding of developmental, social, emotional and educational needs of children.
  • Have experience working with school aged children, 3-18, and their families.
  • Be comfortable and confident in facilitating discussions on sensitive and contentious subjects and devise classroom activities to address these issues.
  • Be open-minded, flexible and empathetic.
  • Be able to respect students' privacy but also understand limits to confidentiality; maintain professional boundaries at all times.
  • A background in counselling/mental health/psychology is essential.
  • The position will be full-time during school hours: Monday to Friday 7:15 am to 3:15 pm.
